Ave. Perhaps you have not yet

made up your mind. If you wish to be swept away by the riveting

you developed a craving for scheduled programs featuring the

magnificent interpretation of a variety of sound sensations, The

to search far to find a venue to match your performing arts

pleasure right in your own backyard. There are venues located in

the heart of this picturesque campus, which resemble a true garden

of entertainment at affordable ticket prices.

Theatrical splendor within The Brooklyn College

Performing Arts complex is on par with the caliber of many

highly respected syndicated productions charging upscale audience

ticket prices.

These stages within the Brooklyn

College Complex of Theaters include THE WALT WHITMAN THEATRE, best

known for its lavish 1920's art deco decor as well as a 2400

This breathtaking theater has thrilled audiences young and old

since its first stage presentation 50 years ago featuring the

remarkable voice of a young Leontyne Price. This stage has been the

setting for such legends as Zubin Mehta, Itzhak Pearlman, Luciano

Pavarotti, Allen King, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole and Engelbert

Humperdink, just to mention a few.

In conjunction with the 50th

anniversary celebration, The Brooklyn Center for the Performing

arts has a spectacular calendar of events planned including free

events, debuts, and many other surprises.

THE GERSHWIN THEATRE was named

for the beloved composers of the twentieth century. The Gershwin

brothers George and Ira were part of  the largest wave of

Eastern European Jewish immigration to

" color: #333333;">America,

between 1892 until the early 1920's. As strangers to the American

Culture, customs, and the English language, these proud refugees

embraced the land of the free as their new homeland with pride

seldom seen.

Through their musical

compositions as well as theatrical collaborations, artistic legacy

of true geniuses will always be ours to admire. The Gershwin

Theater seats 476 and has been the home of the Yiddish Theater

series for many years as well as the stage for The Brooklyn College

Conservatory of Music.

The SAM LEVENSON RECITAL HALL was

named for a comedian who resided in Brooklyn not far from Brooklyn

College for a good part of his life. Sam Levenson  was a most

generous patron of the arts. His smiling face and pleasant demeanor

brought joy to the community. As a gift from Mr.Levenson in 1988,

the theatre was revamped into an unobstructed unique stadium

seating facility staging productions from chamber music to modern

dance. The Levenson Recital hall is prepared to accommodate

progressive multi-faceted media arts of the 21st

century.

THE NEW WORKSHOP THEATER presents performances showcasing

students' ability to express their creativity and imagination in

front of an appreciative audience, whether to fine tune a new work

or present a thesis. The dark background paint and fabric covered

walls offer an atmosphere of intrigue which plays into the scheme

of a production director's delight. This 150 seating capacity

studio is an actors dream. Located in the basement of Whitman Hall

the theater is accessible by elevator and is equipped with infrared

hearing assist systems. Restrooms are also wheelchair accessible as

in almost all of the performance facilities in the Performing Arts

Complex. As you can see, the possibilities for Performing Arts

presentations on the campus of Brooklyn College are unending. Each

production is a work of art in progress sure to quench any patron's

thirst for first-rate entertainment. Prepare to enjoy the magical

realm of endless wonder and amazement right within your

reach.
